Architectural Consulting

WE HELP YOU OBTAIN ADA COMPLIANCE

Are you about to start work on a new building? If you are, you could use some guidance from our ADA consultants.

Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) governs issues related to the accessibility of public accommodations and commercial facilities. Understanding what the ADA entails for you and your firm can help you ensure that your architectural designs and the construction are ADA-compliant.

At Apertum Access, our professionals are experts on the Americans with Disabilities Act. We can partner with you as you develop a blueprint for your new building and advise you about the inclusions and modifications you’ll need to make to your plans.

With our ADA plan review service, you’ll be able to prevent any on-site accidents and any lawsuits that may follow. Speak to us for more information.

What Do Our Accessible Plan Review Services Include?

Building a property that is under ADA specifications and requirements isn’t an easy task. The Act is routinely amended to include new types of properties or more stringent product specifications. You’ll need expert advice to help you meet all of the regulations stated. This is where our team steps in.

We will visit the site or building you are working on and conduct an exhaustive evaluation to check it for accessibility. We typically offer architectural consulting at various stages of construction, such as:

  • Pre-rent/lease examination of the site to check for compliance with ADA specifications.
  • Pre-construction evaluation of architectural blueprints.
  • Regular inspections during construction.
  • Post-construction check to suggest minor renovations.
  • Emergency on-site consulting, as and when needed.

What Do We Look for in an Accessible Building Plan?

Some of the accessibility elements we typically check for during our inspections are:

  • Wide gateways and doorways
  • Broad pathways and hallways
  • Dedicated disability-friendly bathrooms and toilets
  • Accessible kitchens and cafeterias
  • Handicap-friendly workplaces
  • Safe and anti-slip flooring where wheelchairs and walkers don’t get stuck
  • Grab handles, handrails, wheelchair lifts, ceiling tracks, wheelchair ramps, etc.

If your building is still in the design stage and your plan doesn’t include any of the above features, our ADA consultants will help you modify your blueprints with professional ADA Designs. We will ensure that you’ve made provisions for all the ADA products and features that need to be installed when the property is constructed.

Making ADA-compliant blueprints right at the outset has two advantages. You can avoid having to renovate your property at a later date and save time and money. You can prevent paying for any ADA violation penalties ($75,000 for the first ADA violation, followed by a $150,000 fine for all subsequent violations), legal representation fees, and damages that victims of on-site injuries and accidents may claim. Together, these charges can have a terrible impact on your finances, not to mention, your company’s reputation.

If your property is already in the process of being built, our staff can still advise you about the renovations you can make. We can identify problematic areas that need to be fixed immediately and we provide affordable and practical solutions that can be implemented on-the-go. Our objective at this juncture is to ensure that you meet as many of the accessible specifications as you can.

Comply With the ADA Standards for Accessible Design

According to the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, all buildings (both new and renovated) in the USA, need to have:

  • Accessible pathways and escape routes that disabled visitors and staff can use during emergencies.
  • Handicap-friendly slopes that don’t pose a threat to wheelchairs and walkers.
  • Disability-friendly parking lots, driveways, safety paving, curbs, and other landscape requirements that don’t compromise the visibility and maneuverability of the disabled individual.
  • Handicap support installations like grab bars, height-adjustable cabinets, lowered sinks & toilets with handrails, etc. inside and outside the property.
  • Signage that can be viewed and understood by people with physical, mental, and learning disabilities.
  • Service lines, aisles, and check-out tables that can be used by the differently-abled.
  • Tools and equipment like hand dryers, soap dispensing machines, flushing handles, vending machines, coffee makers, mirrors, pencil sharpeners, TV/AC handsets, drinking fountains, light switches, door access buttons, intercom systems, etc. that are disability-friendly.
